Next-generation dynamic range control
chroma correction and noise reduction
Enables real-time video adjustment frame-by-frame,
pixel-by-pixel
[ World's first broadcast unit based on the human visual system ]
The LCP-100 is based on the iridix® imaging engine developed by Apical Ltd, which mimics the behaviour of the human visual system. Derived from research into the way the retina processes visual information, iridix manages dynamic range (tonal range) by adaptively applying a different tone curve to every pixel of every frame of the input video stream.

The LCP-100 is the first broadcasting unit to employ this next-generation imaging technology for HD content in real time.
[ Advantages over gamma correction ]
Traditional gamma-based technology applies a uniform tone curve across the image. This inevitably leads to a compromise: shadow detail may be enhanced, but at the expense of mid-tone and highlight detail. The LCP-1OO's pixel-by-pixel processing yields strong correction of shadows while exactly preserving highlights.

[ Preservation of Local Contrast and Fine Detail ]
Standard non-linear processing often degrades the ratio in luminance levels between adjacent pixels, leading to apparent blurring or greying of fine details. The LCP-100 employs unique technology which guarantees the preservation of local contrast in fine details and textures.

[ Non-linear Chroma Correction ]
In situations where tonal range adjustment leads to unnatural color saturation in shadow or highlight areasCadditional chroma correction can be applied.
The correction is selective between different regions of the frame and is controlled by a single intuitive parameter.

[ Powerful Noise Reduction ]
The LCP-100 incorporates two forms of advanced noise reduction. Temporal NR averages a sequence of frames regionally based on motion estimation, leading to efficient noise reduction without motion blur. Spatial NR applies a sophisticated local smoothing of noisy areas, while preserving texture and image detail, increasing signal S/N ratio.

[ Other key features ]
The unit handles a variety of HD and SD formats via an SDI video interface, and has a surprisingly low latency (delay) of just 6 video lines.
A number of other features are incorporated, including the provision for a spare battery. The LCP-100 contains primary and secondary power supply terminals. If the primary voltage becomes low, the supply source is automatically switched to the secondary supply, continuously. Batteries can be replaced on-location easily without interruption.
Additionally, a bypass function is provided. If main unit power supply is lost completely, the INPUT terminal is connected directly to OUT1, allowing immediate recovery.
